A complex and generous Chateauneuf-du-Pape wine, 1999 was the first vintage of "Les Quartz"; the wine has a dark purple-reddish color, a nose of ripe dark berries and black cherries and appealing dense flavors of black and red fruit, minerals and spices; this is a round wine with good weight in the mouth and a satisfying, slightly spicy finish; match with dark meat fowl including pigeon and duck as well as meat stews; owned by the Vacheron family of the Loire Valley, Domaine Clos du Caillou is one of the most highly regarded producers of Chateauneuf-du-Pape wines.
