Some critics consider the medium-light bodied Sela the second wine from Bodegas Roda. Vintage 2009 is deep cherry-red, with a lively nose of dark and red berries and light notes of oak; on the palate plenty of fresh winter berries and exotic spices plus minerality guide to a soft and slightly tannic finish. Bodegas Roda marketed its first wine in 1996 after nearly a decade of toiling to achieve the highest standards of winemaking in Rioja; today the winery makes some of the highest rated, modern style Riojas as well as premium olive oils.
Decant for at least 20 minutes and serve at 16 - 18℃; the freshness of this red wine makes it a good companion for grilled meats and creamy cheeses; also goes very well with Shanghai style braised pork in soy sauce.
Fermented and aged for 12 months in French oak.
Drinking fine now but can be cellared for another 8 - 10 years.
